Banjo & Kate Sea Garden Skirt

I had never heard of the label Banjo and Cake until I saw the gorgeous Bette Boom wearing one of their skirts in her Seaside Siren post last year.

She was wearing their Sea Garden skirt and I absolutely adored the print of this skirt, the colour combination and the fact it had octopus on it!

I tried to buy this skirt a few times from Too Fast Clothing but sadly missed out on my sizing. Thankfully they restocked this beauty so I knew I had to have it.

The skirt is a silky poly/cotton material and has a lining which is made of soft knit with a tulle border on the bottom. The lining provides extra shape to the skirt without having to wear a full petticoat which is great as I find this skirt, given it isn't 100% cotton, can be a little on the warmer side in summer so would be quite hot with the addition of a full petticoat.

As you can see from the images above the skirt has pockets! Yes pockets!
I have to say I am a huge fan of dresses and skirts with pockets. Not for their practicality of actually putting things other than my hands in but I just love walking around with my hands in my pockets. Call me weird!

Overall a great skirt and I'll be keeping my eye on Banjo & Kate in the future.

Cardigan fetish

 ♥

I have to confess I am quickly developing a cardigan fetish!
I find them a great way to not only keep warm on a cold day but to add interest to an outfit, a way of complimenting my personality.

Take my cardigan below, the Cecilia cardigan from Revival (Dangerfield)

This outfit is a pair of denim jeans with a singlet - a pretty simple, everyday outfit, but adding the cuteness of this cardigan with the lipstick and kissing lip motives, the outfit now has character as well as keeping me warm!

I used to be self-conscious wearing a "quirky" piece like this (as some people have described this cardigan), feeling that I should stick to plain, simple cardigans, only worn for their practicality (to keep warm) rather than as a fashion accessory to add individuality to an outfit...but thankfully I have moved past that. In fact over the years I've successfully progressed from a wardrobe of nearly all black to one of colour and exciting prints.

Gone are the days when you would be called a "nana" if you wore a cardigan. In fact recently cardigans have become collector's items, such as the Dita cardigan by Wheels & Doll Baby, now available in a variety of colours.

Unfortunately I haven't splurged on one of these beauties and it's a good thing as I would seriously need one in every colour released!

Their latest colour, Lilac & Black (below), can be pre-ordered for $190.

Here are two of my favourite cardigans I own at present:

This cute little red pearl embellished cardigan is from Revival.

This one is great for Autumn weather when you need a little extra cover on your arms but not the weight of a cardigan with full length arms.

Worn here with the Mia skirt from Collectif it looks super cute.

The other is adorned with crocheted cherries, also from Revival, and I always seem to receive many compliments when I wear it.

As you can probably guess I am a huge fan of the label, Revival (available from Dangerfield).  The quality is great and I find they fit me nicely as well as washing well and keeping their shape (important factor for cardigans because you want them to remain a nice fit not become stretched and oversized). They are also reasonably priced at around $88 but as Dangerfield have regular sales you can usually get them slightly cheaper than that.

Other labels I love when it comes to cardigans are Alannah Hill and Review Australia.

The only downside to these labels is that on average you will pay $120+ for each piece but I figure if it's something different and you know you will get a lot of wear out of it then it's usually worth the investment.

For really basic, plain cardigans you can't go past H&M at $19.95. I recently bought a navy one as I really had been struggling to find a simple navy cardigan. For some reason navy is one of those colours that is either electric blue or purple and rarely actually navy in colour.  Made from 100% cotton, so far it has washed nicely in the washing machine on a delicate cycle and retained it's shape and softness.

If you are on a tight budget then you can also try Kmart. In the past I have bought cardigans from them for as little as $12 (today they were marked down to $3.50) in a multitude of colours - black, grey, stripes, pink, burgundy.
You can always fancy them up by wearing a cute brooch or necklace. These cardigans are generally acrylic and are probably best hand-washed (I put one through the machine and it came out a bit crispy but still wearable - it just lost some of it's softness) but at that price I'm not bothered and just make sure I hand wash them from now on.

Do you have a favourite label or are you lucky enough to own one of the Dita cardigans?
